@ the Gary Powell Benifit, held at the Loft, Saturday Jul 5th, 2003
Gary Powell, had just undergone a triple bypass, So Loft 150 and WichitaBandScene.com put a benefit together for him at Loft 150. Liquid Ladder members have gone to hear Gary by himself & with his partner Larry Pritchett in their 'Rockin Horse' duo many times, we have also seen them at Liquid Ladder shows several times. Gary is not only a great performer, he is a true supporter of live entertainment and a hell of a nice guy! He has many times put me at ease with his 'Old Hippie' persona & sends people down memory lane with one old familiar tune after another. I have listened to Gary & Larry's harmonys at times & swear I could hear a third voice!. a phonomonon that happens only when you are REALLY in tune!
Anyhows, Liquid Ladder has occaisionally done acoustic shows & would like to have appeared as a whole band. TJ Clancy, a former band member drove in from Alabama to have a part in this. While TJ, Pat, & myself(Ron) made our 20 minute contribution at the benifit, Our other two members were getting us ready for a prior commitment at the Port. The benefit organizers let us do our thing first, Pat played a Dave Matthews tune & one of his own, & TJ and I played a couple tunes we used to do back when we were an acoustic duo. Rumor was, Gary was doing as well as could be expected, we had to bolt immediately after we were done. I know we missed some great acts.
